Metro United offers seven competitive teams for boys and girls in grades 6–12.

Boys Teams: C2/Middle School, C1, JV, Varsity
Girls Teams: C, JV, Varsity

Costs

Season Costs

  • $350 – Middle School, C, and JV teams
  • $425 – Varsity teams (includes $350 season fee + $75 tournament fee)

Scholarships are available.

Cost Details

A $50 non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of registration. The remaining season balance will be charged after tryouts on August 19. Players who do not join a team after tryouts will not be charged the regular season fee.

Families may either pay the full season cost at registration or select a payment plan. With the payment plan, $50 is paid at registration and the remaining balance is due after tryouts on August 21. (To select a payment plan: On the Order Summary page, click “Payment Options,” then “Payment Plan.”)

For Varsity players, an additional $75 tournament fee will be added after tryouts and is due on August 19 (Note: this cost may be reduced by fundraisers).

Varsity Tournaments

Varsity teams will play in two to three tournaments during the season, including the National Homeschool Soccer Tournament. JV players may occasionally be invited to participate in tournaments and will be charged $25 per tournament.

Tournament fees do not include transportation, lodging, or food. Families are responsible for all travel expenses. All players on Varsity rosters are expected to attend their team’s tournaments.  Tentative tournaments and dates are listed below.

Practice Jersey

All players must have a gray Metro United practice jersey ($12). New players must order one; returning players may reuse an existing jersey or order a new one.

Team Selection & Tryouts

All registered players will make a team; no cuts are made. Tryouts are used to determine team placement only.

Boys and Girls Tryouts:

  • Monday, August 10 – Thursday, August 13 | 4:30–6:00 pm

Location: Valley View Middles School, 8900 Portland Ave, Bloomington, MN

On the first day of tryouts, players should arrive 15–30 minutes early to sign in and receive pinnies. Players should wear their gray practice jersey, shin guards, and cleats, and bring a soccer ball and water bottle.

Tryouts consist of small sided and large scrimmages for coaches to evaluate players. Teams are assigned by skill level rather than age. Older players may be placed on lower teams, and seniors are not guaranteed placement on Varsity.

Mandatory Parent Meeting

A mandatory parent meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 13 from 4:30–6:00 pm

Season Schedule

Teams practice or play games three to four days per week. Practices take place in Bloomington, and games are played throughout the metro area and surrounding communities. Eligibility

Players must be homeschooled students in grades 6–12 and must be at least 11 years old by September 1. Players in grades 10–12 must have prior recreational or competitive soccer experience. Homeschool status requires a Letter of Intent to Homeschool filed with the school district. Additional eligibility details are available on the Metro United website.

Team Maximums

Team sizes are capped at 64 boys and 48 girls. Once team maximums are reached, additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist and contacted if space becomes available.

Uniforms

Uniforms are provided and rented for the season and include blue and white jerseys and blue shorts. Each player must provide a $75 uniform deposit check, which will be returned when uniforms are turned in at the end of the season in good condition. Players receive blue and white socks to keep; additional socks may be purchased for $8 per pair.

Uniforms are distributed at the parent meeting and returned at the Year-End Ceremony.

Parent Volunteers

Metro United is a volunteer-run organization (coaches are paid). Each participating family is required to volunteer for at least one role during the fall season. A volunteer sign-up will be sent prior to the start of the season. Volunteer roles include team manager, team photographer, fundraiser, end-of-year program coordinator, potluck coordinator, spiritwear coordinator, uniform coordinator, first aid kit organizer, tournament coordinator, and more.

Code of Conduct

Families are asked to review the Player Code of Conduct and Parent Code of Conduct prior to registration.

Spiritwear

Players and families will have the opportunity to order Metro United spiritwear—including sweatshirts, t-shirts, and hats—through Taylor Custom Printing. One order window will be available prior to tryouts, with another opening after tryouts.

Year-End Ceremony

The Year-End Ceremony will take place in early November and is an opportunity to celebrate each team’s season. Coaches will reflect on their teams, players will receive certificates, and team awards (MVP, Most Improved Player, Best Defensive Player, and Best Offensive Player) will be presented. Team awards are voted on by players. Two seniors will share speeches about their Metro United experience, followed by a cake reception.
