COVID Preparedness Plan

Metro United COVID-19 Protocols

Soccer is considered a Medium-to-High COVID-19 contact risk sport.  Therefore, Metro United has put into place the following recommendations to keep coaches, players, player’s families, and spectators as safe as reasonably possible.

Duties of the Metro United Board and Coaching staff:

·         Honor reasonable requests of players/parents who may have concerns about their children playing or attending soccer related events due to underlying medical conditions of those in their home.

·         Adapt practices to allow physical distancing of at least 6 feet whenever possible.

·         Have a plan for back-up personnel in case a coach or player becomes ill before or during an event.

General Management Rule:

·         It is incumbent upon coaches and players to complete a self-screening of symptoms possibly associated with COVID-19 before attending practice or a game and may include: sore throat, shortness of breath, cough, loss of smell/taste, and/or fever.

Plan to Manage Symptomatic Individuals with No/Negative COVID-19 Testing:

·         If a coach or player feels unwell, they should refrain from participating in practice or game until well for at least 24 hours before rejoining the team/resuming play.

·         Individual testing for COVID-19 in the above situation will be at the player’s parent’s discretion.

Plan To Manage COVID-19 Positive Asymptomatic Individuals:

·         For players/coaches who test positive but never develop symptoms, isolation and other precautions can be discontinued 10 days after the date of their first positive PCR test for SARS-CoV-2.

·         Coaches along with players and their parents will be notified of a possible COVID-19 exposure.  COVID-19 testing for players who were possibly exposed will be based on the player’s parent’s suspicion/concern.

Plan To Manage COVID-19 Positive Symptomatic Individuals:

·         For most players/coaches with COVID-19 illness, isolation and precautions can generally be discontinued 10 days after symptom onset and at least 24 hours after resolution of fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications, and with improvement of other symptoms.

·         Coaches along with players and their parents will be notified of a possible COVID-19 exposure.  COVID-19 testing for players who were possibly exposed will be based on the player’s parent’s suspicion/concern.

Before practices or games:

·         Proceed immediately to your designated area of training avoiding intermixing of teams/players unless absolutely necessary.

·         Upon arrival to your area of training, spread out your bags/gear with roughly 6 feet of spacing between them.

Upon completion of practice or game:

·         After games we will offer God thanks and praise for the opportunity to play with our own team and not interlinked with the opposing team while maintaining social distancing.

·         After practices and games we strongly encourage players and their families to vacate the field in a timely fashion to avoid congregating.

What players need to bring to practices/games:

·         Designated uniform

·         Soccer ball

·         Cleats

·         Shin guards

·         Water bottle

·         Hand sanitizer/Disinfectant wipes

·         Any other necessary equipment: ball pump, rain gear, etc.

*****NO SHARING of clothing, uniforms, or water bottles is authorized*****

Please note: games that are out of the Twin Cities or the state of Minnesota may require us to adjust our team protocols to be in uniformity with local, regional, or state requirements.  Furthermore, MU COVID-19 protocols may be changed at any time pending new information and changes in practices.
